2011 Christchurch earthquake
The 2011 Christchurch earthquake was a magnitude 6.2 earthquake that struck Christchurch, New Zealand, on 22 February 2011. Centred close to the city, it killed 185 people, many in the collapse of the Canterbury Television building, and destroyed much of the central business district, including the spire of the cathedral. It was one of the deadliest disasters in New Zealand's history, and rebuilding took more than a decade.
