Bizen ware

Bizen ware is a Japanese stoneware made around Imbe in the former Bizen Province, now Okayama Prefecture. One of the Six Old Kilns of Japan, it is fired at high temperature without glaze in wood-burning kilns, which give its reddish-brown surface natural ash and flame markings. Prized for tea ceremony wares from the 16th century, it is still produced today.
