Election Commission of India
The Election Commission of India is the constitutional body that has organised elections to the national parliament, the state legislatures and the presidency since 1950. It ran the first general election of 1951–1952, with about 173 million voters, and has since conducted the largest elections in the world, using electronic voting machines nationwide from 2004. Its independence is central to Indian democracy.
