Elizabeth Stuart, Queen of Bohemia

1596–1662 · 17th century · Also known as Winter Queen

Elizabeth Stuart was the daughter of James VI and I and the wife of Frederick V, Elector Palatine, whom she married in 1613. Her husband's acceptance of the Bohemian crown made her queen for a single winter in 1619–1620, hence her name, the Winter Queen, and the couple spent their exile in The Hague. Through her daughter Sophia, electress of Hanover, the British throne passed to the house of Hanover in 1714.
