Fatherland Front (Austria)

1933–1938 · 20th century · Also known as Vaterländische Front

The Fatherland Front was the single ruling party of the authoritarian Federal State of Austria, founded by Chancellor Engelbert Dollfuss in 1933 after he suspended parliament. Drawing on Catholic corporatism and Italian Fascism, it replaced all other parties and opposed both the Social Democrats and the Nazis. It was dissolved after the German annexation of Austria in 1938.
