Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant
The Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant was a Soviet-built nuclear power station at Visaginas in north-eastern Lithuania, with two RBMK reactors of the type used at Chernobyl. Its first reactor began operating in 1983, and at its height it produced most of Lithuania's electricity. As a condition of joining the European Union, Lithuania shut down the reactors in 2004 and 2009, and the plant is being decommissioned.
