Juan Bautista Sacasa

1874–1946 · 20th century

Juan Bautista Sacasa was a Nicaraguan Liberal physician and politician who led the Constitutionalist rebellion of 1926–1927 against the Conservatives. Elected president in 1932, he took office as the United States Marines withdrew, but real power passed to Anastasio Somoza García, commander of the National Guard and his nephew by marriage. Somoza forced him out of office in 1936 and took the presidency himself.
