Kath (Khwarazm)
Kath was the ancient capital of Khwarazm, on the right bank of the Amu Darya in present-day Uzbekistan. It was the seat of the Afrighid shahs until 995, when Ma'mun ibn Muhammad of Gurganj overthrew them, after which Gurganj became the capital. The scholar al-Biruni was born nearby. Much of the city was later washed away by the shifting river.
