Lombok Strait
The Lombok Strait is a deep channel between the islands of Bali and Lombok in Indonesia, linking the Java Sea with the Indian Ocean. It lies on the Wallace Line, the biological boundary between Asian and Australasian fauna, and is a major route for deep-draught shipping. Balinese rulers, especially those of Karangasem, crossed it to conquer western Lombok in the 17th and 18th centuries.
