People's National Congress

1957 · 20th century · Also known as People's National Congress Reform, PNC

The People's National Congress is a political party in Guyana founded in 1957 by Forbes Burnham after he split from the People's Progressive Party. Supported mainly by Afro-Guyanese, it led Guyana to independence in 1966 and ruled until 1992, from 1970 under a socialist co-operative republic, in elections widely seen as rigged.
