Representation of the People Act 1884
The Representation of the People Act 1884, known as the Third Reform Act, extended to the counties the household franchise that the Act of 1867 had given the boroughs. Passed by Gladstone's second government, it roughly doubled the electorate to about five million men, and was followed in 1885 by a redistribution of seats into mostly single-member constituencies.
