Sagres
Sagres is a town on the south-western tip of Portugal, overlooking the Atlantic. It is traditionally associated with Prince Henry the Navigator, who sponsored voyages of exploration along the West African coast from his base there. Accounts of the Portuguese Empire describe Henry's sponsorship of Atlantic exploration from Sagres as a foundation of Portuguese overseas expansion.
