Sulla's civil war
Sulla's civil war was fought in 83–82 BCE between Lucius Cornelius Sulla, returning from the war against Mithridates, and the Marian faction governing Rome. Sulla landed at Brundisium, and with commanders such as Pompey and Crassus defeated the Marian and Samnite armies, finally at the Colline Gate outside Rome in November 82 BCE. He then became dictator and carried out bloody proscriptions.
