Third Samnite War

298–290 BCE · 3rd century BCE · Part of the Samnite Wars

The Third Samnite War was fought from 298 to 290 BCE between Rome and the Samnites, who were allied with Etruscans, Umbrians and Gauls. The Roman victory at Sentinum in 295 BCE broke the coalition, and Rome won again at Aquilonia in 293 BCE. The Samnites made peace in 290 BCE, leaving Rome the dominant power in central and southern Italy.
