Ufa
Ufa is the capital of the Republic of Bashkortostan in Russia, at the confluence of the Belaya and Ufa rivers west of the southern Urals. It was founded as a Russian fortress in 1574 and became a centre for governing the Bashkirs and the region's Muslims. In 1918 it hosted the State Conference that created the anti-Bolshevik Ufa Directory.
