Wiglaf of Mercia

d. c. 839 · 9th century

Wiglaf was king of Mercia from 827 to 829 and again from 830 to about 839. In 829 Ecgberht of Wessex drove him out and briefly ruled Mercia, but he recovered the kingdom the following year. Mercia never regained its former supremacy, and he was buried in the royal mausoleum at Repton.
