Wolfgang of Regensburg

c. 924–994 · 10th century · Also known as Saint Wolfgang

Wolfgang of Regensburg was a Swabian monk who became bishop of Regensburg in 972. A reformer, he separated the abbey of Saint Emmeram from the bishopric in 975, gave up territory for the new diocese of Prague, and tutored the future Emperor Henry II. He was canonised in 1052, and many churches and the Austrian lake and town of St. Wolfgang bear his name.
