Albrecht von Haller

1708–1777 · 18th century

Albrecht von Haller was a Swiss physiologist, anatomist, botanist and poet from Bern, often called the father of modern physiology for his experiments on the irritability of muscles and the sensibility of nerves. He taught at the University of Göttingen from 1736 to 1753. His poem Die Alpen of 1729 helped create the image of the Alps and their people as simple and virtuous.
