Albrecht von Wallenstein

1583–1634 · 17th century · Also known as Albrecht von Waldstein

Albrecht von Wallenstein was a Bohemian nobleman who raised and commanded the imperial armies in the Thirty Years' War. Rewarded with the duchies of Friedland, Sagan and, in 1628, Mecklenburg, he became one of the most powerful men in the Empire. Suspected of treason, he was dismissed and then murdered at Eger in 1634 on the emperor's authority.
