Amazonas Region
Amazonas is a region of northern Peru on the eastern slopes of the Andes, crossed by the Marañón and Utcubamba rivers, with its capital at Chachapoyas. Its cloud forests were the home of the Chachapoya culture, whose walled site of Kuélap, the sarcophagi of Karajía and the cliff tombs of Revash are its best-known monuments. The Inca conquered the area in the late 15th century.
