Ashur-nirari V

r. 755–745 BCE · 8th century BCE

Ashur-nirari V was king of Assyria from 755 to 745 BCE, at a low point of Assyrian power, when provincial governors were largely independent. His treaty with Mati'ilu of Arpad, preserved on a clay tablet, is an important example of an Assyrian vassal treaty. His reign ended amid revolt, and he was succeeded by Tiglath-pileser III.
