Barbados Labour Party

1938– · 20th century

The Barbados Labour Party is one of the two main political parties of Barbados, founded in 1938 by Grantley Adams and others after the labour riots of 1937. It led the island towards universal suffrage and self-government, and later governed under Tom Adams, Owen Arthur and, from 2018, Mia Mottley. It has alternated in power with the Democratic Labour Party, which broke away from it in 1955.
