Battle of Carillon

1758 · 18th century · Also known as Battle of Ticonderoga (1758) · Part of the Seven Years' War

The Battle of Carillon was fought on 8 July 1758 at Fort Carillon, later Ticonderoga, on Lake Champlain. About 3,600 French troops under the Marquis de Montcalm, behind a log entrenchment, repulsed repeated frontal attacks by a British army of some 16,000 under James Abercrombie, inflicting about 2,000 casualties. It was the greatest French victory of the war in North America.
