Battle of Carham

c. 1018 · 11th century

The Battle of Carham was fought around 1018 at Carham on the River Tweed, where Malcolm II of Scotland, with Owen the Bald of Strathclyde, defeated a Northumbrian army. The victory secured Scottish control of Lothian, the land between the Forth and the Tweed, and set the Tweed as much of the later border between Scotland and England.
