Battle of Largs

1263 · 13th century · Part of the Scottish–Norwegian War

The Battle of Largs was fought on 2 October 1263 on the Ayrshire coast between Scots and part of the Norwegian fleet of King Haakon IV, which had been battered by storms. The clash itself was indecisive, but Haakon withdrew and died in Orkney that winter. His successor Magnus VI then negotiated the Treaty of Perth of 1266, ceding the Hebrides and Man to Scotland.
