Ayrshire

Ayrshire is a historic county in south-west Scotland, on the Firth of Clyde, divided into the districts of Carrick, Kyle and Cunninghame. Inhabited in Roman times by the Damnonii, it later formed part of the British kingdom of Strathclyde. Robert the Bruce was Earl of Carrick, and the poet Robert Burns was born at Alloway. Its towns include Ayr, Kilmarnock and Irvine.
