Battle of Danubyu

1825 · 19th century · Part of the First Anglo-Burmese War

The Battle of Danubyu was fought in March and April 1825 during the First Anglo-Burmese War, when a British force attacked the Burmese fortified position at Danubyu in the Irrawaddy delta. The Burmese commander Maha Bandula was killed by a mortar shell on 1 April 1825, and his army abandoned the stockade, opening the way for the British advance up the Irrawaddy.
