Battle of Vítkov Hill

1420 · 15th century · Also known as Battle of Vítkov · Part of the Hussite Wars

The Battle of Vítkov Hill was fought on 14 July 1420 on a hill on the eastern edge of Prague. Hussite forces under Jan Žižka repulsed an assault by the army of the first crusade against the Hussites, led by Emperor Sigismund, who lifted the siege of Prague soon afterwards. A large national monument with an equestrian statue of Žižka now stands on the hill.
