Bitterfeld

Bitterfeld is a town in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, which grew from the late 19th century into a centre of the chemical industry, based on local brown coal. In East Germany its chemical works made it one of the most polluted places in Europe. Since 2007 it has been part of the town of Bitterfeld-Wolfen.
