Bolivian National Revolution
The Bolivian National Revolution began in April 1952, when the Revolutionary Nationalist Movement (MNR) of Víctor Paz Estenssoro, backed by armed miners and workers, overthrew the military government. The new regime introduced universal suffrage, nationalised the large tin mines and carried out a sweeping land reform in 1953, transforming Bolivian society until the MNR was overthrown by a military coup in 1964.
