Borgund Stave Church

c. 1200 · 13th century

Borgund Stave Church is a wooden church in Lærdal in western Norway, built around 1180–1250 and dedicated to the apostle Andrew. With its tiered roofs, dragon-head gables and carved portals it is the best-preserved of Norway's medieval stave churches and the model for many later copies. It ceased to be a parish church in 1868 and is now a museum.
