Borgu
Borgu is a region of West Africa straddling the border of present-day Benin and Nigeria, home to the Bariba people. Around 1535, after a defeat by the Nupe, the ruling dynasty of Oyo spent roughly eighty years in exile in Borgu. Contact with Borgu's equestrian warriors during this period strengthened the cavalry tradition of the Oyo Empire.
