Nupe Kingdom

Also known as Nupe

The Nupe Kingdom was a state in the middle Niger region of present-day central Nigeria, north-east of Yoruba country. It exerted persistent military pressure on the early Oyo Empire. Around 1535 the Nupe inflicted a severe defeat on Oyo, forcing its ruling dynasty into a long exile in Borgu.
