Hausa
The Hausa are a people of northern Nigeria and southern Niger, whose city-states such as Kano and Katsina were important centres of trade and crafts. The Kanem-Bornu Empire interacted with and at times exercised influence over them. In the early nineteenth century Usman dan Fodio's jihad overthrew the Hausa kings and founded the Sokoto Caliphate.
