Nigeria
Nigeria is a country in West Africa, created as a British colony in the early twentieth century and independent since 1960. Its territory includes the heartlands of several empires covered on the site, among them the Benin Empire, the Oyo Empire and the Sokoto Caliphate. Nigeria has been central to the debate over the repatriation of the Benin Bronzes looted by British forces in 1897.
