Brazilian Democratic Movement
The Brazilian Democratic Movement, or MDB, was created in 1965–1966 as the only legal opposition party under the military dictatorship, alongside the government party ARENA. It grew into the main channel of opposition to the regime, and after the return to a multi-party system in 1979 it became the PMDB, one of the largest parties of democratic Brazil.
