Chad Gadya

early version c. 13th–14th century; printed in Haggadahs in Prague, 1527 and 1590 · 13th century · Also known as חד גדיא

Chad Gadya ("one little goat" or "one kid") is a playful cumulative song sung at the end of the Passover Seder, the ritual feast that opens the Jewish holiday of Passover. An early version appears in a prayer book of the Jewish community of Provence from about the 13th or 14th century, and the song was printed in Haggadahs in Prague in 1527 and 1590, which makes it a late addition to the Seder.
