Collectivity of Saint Martin

Also known as French Saint Martin

The Collectivity of Saint Martin is the French northern part of the Caribbean island of Saint Martin, whose southern part is the Dutch Sint Maarten. The division of the island dates from the Treaty of Concordia of 1648. Long a dependency of Guadeloupe, it became a separate French overseas collectivity in 2007, with its capital at Marigot, and lives mainly from tourism.
