1834 · 19th century · Also known as Conservative and Unionist Party

The Conservative Party is a centre-right political party in the United Kingdom that developed from the Tory party in the 1830s under Robert Peel. It split in 1846 over the repeal of the Corn Laws, revived under Disraeli, and was the dominant party of government in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries under leaders such as Churchill and Thatcher.
