Critolaus (Achaean general)

d. 146 BCE · 2nd century BCE

Critolaus was general of the Achaean League in 147–146 BCE and led it into war with Rome. He rejected Roman demands that Sparta, Corinth and other cities leave the league and stirred the people of Corinth against the Roman envoys. In 146 BCE he was defeated by Quintus Caecilius Metellus at Scarpheia in Locris and disappeared in the rout, leaving command to Diaeus.
