David II of Imereti

r. 1784–1789 · 18th century

David II was King of Imereti in western Georgia from 1784 to 1789. He succeeded Solomon I but struggled against rival claimants and powerful nobles, and in 1789 he was overthrown by Solomon II, a grandson of Erekle II of Kartli-Kakheti, who had eastern Georgian support. His brief reign reflects the instability of the western Georgian kingdom in its last decades before Russian annexation in 1810.
