Dependency of Ireland on Great Britain Act 1719
The Dependency of Ireland on Great Britain Act, known as the Declaratory Act, was passed by the British Parliament in 1720. It declared that the Parliament at Westminster had full power to make laws binding Ireland and removed the appellate jurisdiction of the Irish House of Lords. Its repeal in 1782, under pressure from Henry Grattan and the Volunteers, began the period of Irish legislative independence.
