Digest (Justinian)
The Digest is a compilation of extracts from the writings of classical Roman jurists, issued in 533 under Emperor Justinian I. It forms a major part of the Corpus Juris Civilis, the codification of Roman law undertaken in the Byzantine Empire. It preserved Roman legal thought and later became a foundation of European civil law.
