Dionysiou Monastery

1370s · 14th century

Dionysiou Monastery is an Eastern Orthodox monastery on Mount Athos in Greece, built on a rock above the sea on the peninsula's south-west coast. It was founded in the 1370s by the monk Dionysios of Korisos with the support of Emperor Alexios III of Trebizond, whose chrysobull of 1374 survives in its archive. It ranks fifth among the twenty ruling monasteries of Athos.
