Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik is a city on the southern Dalmatian coast of Croatia, known historically as Ragusa. From the Middle Ages until 1808 it was the centre of the independent maritime Republic of Ragusa, a rival of Venice that traded across the Mediterranean and the Balkans. Its walled old town, largely rebuilt after an earthquake in 1667, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was shelled during the siege of 1991–1992.
