Middle Ages
The Middle Ages is the period of European history between the end of the Western Roman Empire in the 5th century and the beginning of the early modern era around 1500. It is usually divided into early, high and late phases. The term is also applied loosely to the same centuries elsewhere, as when histories describe the rise of local dynasties or the abandonment of ancient towns.
