Roman Empire

Also known as Romans

The Roman Empire was the state ruled by emperors from Rome after the end of the Roman Republic, at its height controlling the entire Mediterranean world and much of western Europe and the Near East. Its western half ended with the deposition of Romulus Augustulus in 476 CE, while the eastern half continued as the Byzantine Empire. It serves as a reference point across many profiles, including those of the Carolingian and Holy Roman empires, which claimed its legacy, and its rivals the Parthian and Punic empires.
