Dutch Reformed Church

1571–2004 · 16th century · Also known as Nederlandse Hervormde Kerk

The Dutch Reformed Church was the main Calvinist church of the Netherlands and the established church of the Dutch Republic. It followed Dutch trade and settlement overseas, to the Caribbean, North America, the Cape Colony and Asia. At the Cape its tradition shaped the Afrikaner churches, and in 2004 it merged into the Protestant Church in the Netherlands.
