Elche

Also known as Elx

Elche is a city in the province of Alicante, south-eastern Spain, near the site of Iberian and Roman Ilici at La Alcudia, where the Lady of Elche was found. Its Palm Grove, planted in the Islamic period, and its medieval mystery play, the Misteri d'Elx, are both recognised by UNESCO. It is now a centre of footwear manufacture.
