1903–1979 · 20th century

Ferenc Nagy was a leader of the Independent Smallholders' Party who served as Prime Minister of Hungary from February 1946 to May 1947, during the short-lived Second Hungarian Republic. The Communists, backed by the Soviet occupation, broke up his party through arrests and accusations of conspiracy. While on holiday in Switzerland he was forced to resign, and he spent the rest of his life in exile.
